Hey, there is a Senate hearing on prison stuff coming up, right? @DickDurbin @ChuckGrassley @CoryBooker @amyklobuchar @ChrisCoons
We've been tracking COVID-19 among prisoners. But this data no longer includes new cases from @officialFBOP because they have been removing cases, and now deaths, from their totals. So we can’t accurately count new cases or deaths in federal prisons. trib.al/4PMtuYc

Hold up..... The Federal Bureau of Prisons is deleting covid deaths from its website. The BOP is part of DOJ. The United States Department of Justice is hiding COVID deaths.
Replying to @keribla
Maybe if they close enough prisons they will have no covid deaths at all anymore? That seems like a prison closure argument even the prisons could get behind...

Righting wrongs and fighting for justice sounds great, but I don’t think I could ever argue in favor of keeping people in prison as long as possible during a pandemic.
Replying to @jameskzeigler
This is exactly what you would do if you wanted to discourage vaccination in our federal prisons, and it’s already having that effect. But our DOJ would rather see these people dead than free it seems.

Priorities....
The Arizona Department of Corrections has acquired enough pentobarbital to kill 100% of the people on death row, but only has enough COVID vaccine for 20% of the total incarcerated population

Still re-watching Top Chef Season 2. I could definitely write an ode to this being the peak of cooking reality TV. I feel more sympathy for the “villain,” Marcel, this time around, though.

Everyone just hated him on sight, thought he was weird and arrogant, and wanted to smack him. But he was actually decently talented. So...

"The outflow of population across the five boroughs was heavily concentrated in Manhattan’s core." That's what I thought. Those of you who think New York is in decline don't wander far outside of these zip codes, I think. gothamist.com/news/map-these…

I’m all for trans rights, but if you’re going to fight for those please pay attention to the dark corner of our society (prison) where it remains incredibly dangerous and traumatizing to be trans. Also, note the retaliation allegations. Those are far too common.
Ashley Diamond, a transgender woman currently held in a men's prison in Georgia, has been sexually assaulted 16 times since her 2019 imprisonment, according to a brief filed today by her lawyers. Three of those assaults involved prison staff. abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/…

THIS. What these women are doing is nothing short of awesome, and desperately needed.
“Judges don't give a damn about us. They'll start to care when we have people power behind us.” Qiana & Carmen grew a courtwatching force of hundreds. Including Fiona Apple. Courts now trying to shut them down. Not giving up. If you read one thing today: washingtonpost.com/local/pub…

A reminder that the Pa legislature and former Gov. Tom Corbett tried to completely silence people in prison. Had this law not been overturned (a federal judge rightly said it was "manifestly unconstitutional") this podcast would not have been possible. pennlive.com/midstate/2015/0…
1/8 The first 3 episode of What Is Life? are now available at whatislife.us and on most major podcast streaming apps. Hear from Charles Diggs, who has been in prison for nearly 50 years, as he discusses the effects COVID-19 has had on incarcerated people.

I haven't spoken on Clubhouse since I sort of randomly ended up leading a room after the ELLE article. I don't think I would have done it for tips, tbh. Too weird for me.
Personally, I don't think concerns about harassment and "unfettered" conversations are the real enemy of @joinClubhouse. Spring weather and vaccines kinda are, though. Can the new tipping policy rejuvenate enthusiasm for the app? (I wrote a thing.) businessofbusiness.com/artic…

Does no one appreciate the fact that literally every woman's high heel probably contains many (dried) drops of blood, as these shoes routinely tear apart our feet? I am unimpressed by Satan shoes.
