Infrastructure is roads and bridges, yes.   But it's also ensuring that those roads connect our families and communities:   Safe, affordable homes. Expanded broadband. Clean drinking water. Green energy.   Infrastructure is about building a modern economy that lifts everyone up.

The NRA will fight tooth and nail to preserve the gun industry’s unjustifiable legal immunity.   But we don’t have to let them win.   I have a bill to end this obscene liability shield—that no other industry enjoys—so gun violence victims get their day in court.   Let's act. Now.
Biden says if he could get only one gun policy on his to-do list it would be to allow for the suiing of gun manufacturers

McConnell thinks corporations should stay out of politics. Especially on the "highly incendiary issue" of... the right to vote. But McConnell also asks corporations to pour money into Republican political campaigns so they can suppress voters and stay in power. How convenient.
"Republicans drink Coca-Cola too. And we fly, and we like baseball," McConnell said. "I'm not talking about political contributions. I'm talking about taking a position on a highly incendiary issue like this and punishing a community or a state ... I just think it's stupid."

My heart goes out to Officer Billy Evans’ family, especially his two beautiful children. @CapitolPolice have endured so much. But they continue to show up every day to protect not just a building, but the democracy it represents. Rest In Peace, Officer.

I’m horrified that tragedy has again struck the Capitol, and a US Capitol Police officer has been killed and another injured. And I am heartbroken for Capitol Police, who have already endured so much. My thoughts are with the entire department, the officers, and their families.

Republicans are rushing to make it harder to vote—especially for communities of color—in Georgia and across the country.   Democrats are fighting to protect and expand the vote.   Not just for "our" voters, but for all Americans.   It's a fight for the very soul of our democracy.

Republicans know that H.R. 1 is widely popular, even with conservatives.   So McConnell is arranging private meetings with the Koch Brothers to figure out how to kill the bill.   ... Exactly the kind of dark money influence and lack of accountability that H.R. 1 will root out.
A recording obtained by @JaneMayerNYer reveals how Koch-backed conservatives and aide to Mitch McConnell are trying to kill an election-reform bill that would keep dark money out of elections. newyorker.com/news/news-desk…

Wishing a Chag Pesach Sameach to all who are celebrating the first night of Passover this evening.   While far too many families across America are facing empty chairs at their seder tables, I hope that you find peace, joy, and meaningful reflection. Next year, in person!

No one should be held behind bars while awaiting a trial just because they can't afford bail.   Pre-trial detention for minor, nonviolent offenses can have a domino effect – job loss, poverty, and homelessness. That doesn't make anyone safer.   No more. Poverty is not a crime.
🚨🚨🚨JUST IN: MASSIVE VICTORY IN CALIFORNIA! CA Supreme Court just ruled unanimously that "the state cannot keep people behind bars simply because they cannot afford to post bail pending their trial." Cash bail as we know it over in California. Speechless.latimes.com/california/story…

After losing Georgia, the GOP wasted no time. Working so hard to suppress the vote, they made it a crime to give water to a voter waiting in line. And it's not just Georgia, with 250+ voter suppression bills nationwide. If they bring back Jim Crow, our democracy can't succeed.
#SB202 suppresses voters, criminalizes compassion & seizes election authority from local + state officials. In 11 years, I never witnessed a massive bill approved at such speed and signed in such desperation. This wasn’t efficiency or principle. This is cowardice. #gapol 1/2

Sandy Hook. Parkland. El Paso. Orlando. Las Vegas. Atlanta. Boulder. This awful list keeps growing. No more. We must act: Universal background checks. Ban assault weapons & extended clips. And more. We have the power. Not the NRA. So let’s act. Before another tragedy strikes.

Americans send representatives to Washington to solve problems and enact change. It is simply not tenable for the will of the voters to be continually thwarted by an archaic practice. I believe it's time to eliminate the filibuster once and for all. Here's why:

As horrifying reports continue to emerge from Colorado, my heart is with the victims, their families, and the Boulder community. Once again, a gunman has turned a public space into a site of tragedy. We don’t have to live in fear like this. We must pass commonsense gun reforms.

Words have meaning, and hateful rhetoric leads to tragic consequences.   Hate crimes against Asian Americans are up dramatically, and just yesterday we saw the murder of several Asian victims in Atlanta.   We must all speak out against violent anti-Asian attacks and hate speech.
