Wild conspiracy theory: What if they never existed? What if they were phantom students who schools just made up because schools in some states get funding based on head counts. More students = more money.

How does "3 million" get translated into "thousands" in the @ABC headline?

Or they live with emotionally/physically abusive adults, or in shelters/cars. Or they’ve been tasked with helping their younger siblings with remote learning, and had to give up on their own.

I’ve got students in my class who’ve logged in every day, but have never done any work or responded to any communication, I have no idea if they’re really there

Everyone I know is talking about the whole school mess. Problem is we are just normal people and don’t make any decisions and powers that be simply do not care.

Will they even return to school? Or worse, are they physically and mentally OK?

In my school we have kids who are essentially truant. Admin barely cares.

Just like illegals....triple the number. Nobody cares about the kids. They have turned learning into a TV show. Few are watching.
