“The 50-block area just blocks from Staples Center contains one of the largest populations of indigent people in the nation." I took @BreakingBrown to see the tragedy of Skid Row when she visited. It is the cost of wealth inequality & bad policy. dailynews.com/2021/05/11/jud…

Looking forward to this conversation with @jecoreyarthur and @LouSafetyZone about the safety zone ordinance and how folks can advocate in advance of the May 20th council vote.
On Monday, Safety Zone advocates and the ordinance's primary sponsors (@cassie4council & @jecoreyarthur) will join together to talk about what the Louisville Metro Council will be voting on 5/20. There will be a short Q&A: submit your questions to louisvillesafetyzone@gmail.com

"Will the Colonial Pipeline shutdown make gas prices continue to go up in the state? The short answer, for now, is: no. Experts say the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline won't have much of an impact on Kentucky gas prices." lex18.com/news/lex-in-depth/….

"However, experts also admit that the longer the pipeline is shut down, the more the impact could spread through the entire region."

Since Jan. 1, 2020, more than 1,000 people have been killed or wounded by gunfire in Louisville. As city and state leaders grapple with how to stem the bloodshed, I asked a seemingly simple question -- where are the guns coming from? Here's what I found: courier-journal.com/in-depth…

I’m one hour into this week’s Planning and Zoning Committee hearing and already 708 housing units have been arbitrarily held up by members of the committee. Democrats hold a 5-2 majority so let’s start mentioning this when we talk about a housing shortage...

Especially considering there is little to none of this in our hoods anyway 🤦🏿‍♂️
Everybody should listen to Keisha Dorsey absolutely NAIL nimbyism at the 27 minute mark here. We have got to stop justifying banning density because there aren't sidewalks or amenities or employment centers.

We just had a meeting about forgiving the loan of an affordable housing church developer. If we don't forgive it, they will foreclose and lose the property to a private developer who will likely make the units market rate because it's in the middle of downtown.
"Nationwide, there are 30 or fewer apartments accessible for every 100 “extremely low income” tenants, and two affordable apartments are lost for every one created each year." newrepublic.com/article/1618…

But forgiving the loan only helps extend 'affordability' for 15 years. "This is one of the most urgent problems with affordable housing: It expires."

This + everyone cares way too much about empty statements. Doing > Saying
We have the same issue here in Atlanta. The city is so reactionary, they don't want to deal with the root cause.

Facts. 75% of Louisville is zoned for single-family homes.

#ExclusionaryZoning has to stop. Mississippi is still a segregated state.

I cannot imagine holding so much intolerance in your heart that you would refuse to help abused and neglected kids. (Especially when it’s the law and you’re getting paid to do it because it’s your job) courier-journal.com/story/ne…
