A 2017 white paper for @MobileCoin lists Signal CEO @Moxie Marlinspike as the CTO of the cryptocurrency, which Signal recently added for payments. The same paper, which MobileCoin’s CEO disavows, also lists details of MOB $30M pre-sale. By @AsILayHodling trib.al/8ZaXNpZ

“Signal sold out their user base by creating and marketing a cryptocurrency based solely on their ability to sell the future tokens to a captive audience.”.. in about the least-fair and most opaque and secretive way possible.

For March 2021, there were 78 times as many Monero transactions as Zcash fully shielded and Dash PrivateSend transactions COMBINED. The INCREASE in Monero's transactions from February to March exceeds the # of fully shielded transactions in Zcash's entire history. #monero #xmr

1/ After a good bit of research and some back and forth on Twitter, I wanted to put out a thread with my thoughts on MobileCoin. Tl;dr -- MobileCoin uses the Monero protocol to provide strong privacy for users, but sadly relies on Intel hardware guarantees and centralization.
Pretty damn cool to see a fork of #Monero winning out as the payment method of choice, huge validation for the protocol that Monero researchers and developers have spent 7y building! Hopeful that @mobilecoin and @signalapp will contribute back upstream to Monero in the future.

My comment’s on Mobilecoin’s code, vs Mobilecoin’s founding engineer’s comments on Monero’s code (subsequently deleted). It really is quite fascinating that crypto projects find it so hard to be high integrity.

How on earth do you build a decentralised, open-source, community-oriented project in secret?! All these people have zero open-source commits, and BOY does it show. They’re cannon fodder for regulators as a result.

lololol They're actually rolling out Intel SGX coin. "MobileCoin is a payment network with no central authority." That is a lie. Intel is a central authority if you rely on SGX. github.com/mobilecoinfoundat…

Miners may in theory block anything that they feel like for arbitrary reasons, but this is specifically a case where Bitcoin's inadequate fungibility allows for this sort of tampering in practice. Expect this trend to continue so long as this tempering is convenient.

Regulatory scrutiny is of course incoming to the mining sector, however, this kind of response is the worst possible reaction in my opinion, though I fully understand the motivation.

Have you noticed the increase in Liquid shilling from your favorite bitcoin influencers lately? Pretty obvious eh. Liquid is a custodial centralized shit coin. It's privacy claims are severely overblown, it is not censorship resistant, it is simply an op to make middlemen rich.

That people have doubts about bitcoin's ability to scale and be private?
