In the spirit of algorithmic transparency I decided to change how @semiphemeral deals with fascists. If you get blocked, the DM you receive tells you how many fascist tweets you liked with clear instructions on next steps.

When you login you can see why you were blocked, exactly which tweets you liked from which fascists, and what to do next. If you liked fewer than 10 tweets from fascists in that last 6 months, you can automatically unblock yourself

The latest batshit email that Gab’s CEO, sent to its four million users (only 100k are active on the site), is an anti-vax screed

I'm quite impressed with how well the web works these days with Firefox's HTTPS Only Mode enabled. Like, I don't even noticed it, everything just works

The built-in content blocking also works really well. Even if you set it to Strict, it rarely disrupts anything

While you're at it, it might be worth switching to @DuckDuckGo as your default search engine. I've been using it for a few years and I honestly very rarely fallback to searching Google anymore

Here's a sampling of the content that the CEO of Gab has emailed to all its users in the last few days. Totally normal behavior for a social network, right? Not at all extremist/white supremacist/religious fundamentalist

This is a screenshot from iMessage. At the top it says "DG" in a circle, and "Don >", meaning this is a screenshot of a conversation with the contact Don Gaetz. The message is on the left and gray, meaning this phone received the message, it didn't send it.

The article says Don Gaetz claimed to receive this text from Bob Kent. If this is a screenshot from Don's phone, why is this a convo with his own contact instead of with Kent's? If this were a screenshot from Kent's phone, why is this is a received message, not a sent one?

Replying to @truelai
He has not reflected and apologized, nothing has changed. But the wider issue isn’t actually about RMS himself. It’s about the culture of allowing toxic personalities in leadership positions. He makes FSF less inclusive, and free software should be for everyone

I just signed the open letter calling for the entire Free Software Foundation board to step down and for Richard Stallman to be removed from all leadership positions rms-open-letter.github.io/

Several of the accounts with weak passwords I successfully cracked were run by open neo-Nazis, like these two. Also a bunch of QAnon accounts, and some run by typical Republican conspiracy theorists posting anti-vax and 2020 election conspiracies

As of late February, when Gab was hacked, this was the post with the most engagement on the whole site (also unlike on Twitter, the @realdonaldtrump on Gab is not, in fact, the real Donald Trump, but rather an account run by @getongab)

The Gab post that ranks ninth in engagement is from the major QAnon account with 220k followers. Needless to say, his predictions did not come to pass.
