I assume all this shit is going to skyrocket tomorrow with Coinbase going public or whatever.
Have to say divesting of all this shit and just... not having the stress in my life was a decision I do not regret one bit.
Let's assume that I am expected to believe that a trained police officer is unable to tell the difference between a taser and a gun in the heat of the moment.
How is it reasonable to expect me to give up my guns and turn my safety over to this kind of person?
If you want to monetize things, do it in a tenable manner - sell parts kits, swag, lessons, even custom files on a case-by-case basis.
But a DRM, KYC, or any other easily regulated standard is bad. You'd be doing the antigun side's work.
"How does a company making and marketing smart guns equate a restriction on what anyone else does??"
Building the system you described would give the antigun side a tool or standard with which to regulate this stuff - just like biometric guns did.
Check out this excellent thread on the fundamentals of the 3D printed firearms community, intellectual property, and FOSS by @nguyenkvvn -- it provides a great summary of why DRM and serialization doesn't work here and what alternatives could exist for making profit in FOSS.
My favorite part of the Divine Mercy story is how St Faustina was distressed about how the painting wasn't as beautiful as her vision (actually I think she said it was ugly) and when she told Jesus this He was literally like, "Yeah, I know it's bad, but my Mercy is still here."
I regret to inform you that Pincus is back at it, defending the good ol' "Apple Music" of 3D printed guns model.
Is it because he doesn't understand? Does he just choose not to? The world may never know...
🙄. Be mad with Cody Wilson (whom I spoke with last week) and anyone else who has ever hypothesized on the way files would be potentially distributed for a fee or controlled in regard to IP.
I’ve NEVER advocated against free transfer of info. Capitalism is gonna happen though.
